Charge Sheet // Filed by the American Worker

The Indictment

The People of the United States v. The People Who Sold Them Out

They will tell you it was inevitable.

It wasn't.

It was a choice.

Somebody made it.

This is the charge sheet.

Count One

They sold your job and called it efficiency.

The factory didn't fail.

It was profitable the day they closed it.

It was just more profitable somewhere your family doesn't live.

Count Two

They decided your work was beneath them.

To the people who signed the deals, making things looked like shit work.

Too dirty for their kids.

Their kids went to Georgetown.

Your kids went to the unemployment office.

Count Three

They sold a fairy tale called the service economy.

Learn to code, they said.

Retrain, they said.

The town that lost the mill was supposed to become a town of consultants.

It became a town of dollar stores and fentanyl.

Count Four

They did it with both hands.

One party signed the trade deals.

The other party cashed the checks.

There is no clean side of the aisle.

This was bipartisan.

Count Five

They called it globalism and told you it was progress.

Progress for who?

The ships come in full and leave empty.

That's not trade.

That's tribute.

Count Six

They left the arsenal of democracy unarmed.

We won two world wars because we could out-build anyone on earth.

Now we can't build a cargo ship without asking permission.

They didn't just sell your job.

They sold the country's ability to defend itself.

The jury is you.
